He was born in Bennett, son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Alice May Phillips Smith.  Surviving are his wife, Alma Nera Beckett Smith; three sons, Fred of Grafton, Ohio, Louis of Glenville and James of Woodbridge, Va; five daughters, Sylvia Dobbins and Nell Clowser of Cedarville, Rita Marks of Jamestown, NY, Floda Skubie of Cleveland, OH and Alice Dewey of Elyria, OH; a sister Lena Jenkins of Baldwin and a brother, Ralph Smith of Grafton, OH; 33 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
